WHEREAS, Los Medanos Community Healthcare District (LMCHD) recognizes Families Thrive who are a community of professionals and who have come together to address the issue of domestic and family violence; and

WHEREAS, LMCHD serves as “health advocates” representing the health needs of the residents residing in our district, we thereby support the efforts of Families Thrive, with the particular focus on children and youth who are exposed to domestic violence and are at risk for many difficulties, both immediately and in the future; and

WHEREAS, LMCHD recognizes that exposure to domestic violence affects children’s ability to learn and function in school and is associated with greater rates of antisocial behavior, substance abuse, mental illness, and adverse health outcomes in adulthood.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Los Medanos Community Healthcare District dedicates this day, March 8, 2010, to “Families Thrive-Moving to Action”, and we resolve this day to recognize Families Thrive as an effective strategy of the Safe and Bright Futures for Children Exposed to Domestic Violence.

Passed and adopted this 8th day of March, 2010.
